Stable Engineering

About

Passion. Experience. Diligence.

History

After years of working for Industrial Consulting Engineering Companies in Alberta and British Colombia, Bernie Schmidtke, P.Eng. elected to continue with independent practice, focusing on work that would kindle his passion for solving unique problems and helping his customers optimize their operations. Stable Engineering was born to provide Bernie with a foot in the world of challenging problems, where he can apply his wealth of experience, help out the younger colleagues and continue to enjoy the rewards of a job well done. If you are curious about where Bernie parks his other foot, ask him.

After working as Principal Engineer and retiring from Andritz Automation in 2018,  associates that had contact with him previously asked him about helping on small projects. The enquiries for help continued to flow in and it made sense to start Stable Engineering as a Sole Proprietorship, licensed in BC.

Principal engineer - owner

Bernd (Bernie) Schmidtke, P.Eng.

After 5 years working in Alberta for Consultants to the Oil and Gas Industry, Bernie moved to Vancouver British Colombia, to join D.W. Thomson Consultants (1992) and later Universal Dynamics (1996) where he worked for over 20 years, retiring in 2018 as Principal Engineer. Bernie was the primary electrical designer and engineer responsible for numerous significant industrial expansions, including the following highlight examples: A 60 MW generator addition to a pulp mill in Prince George British Columbia , including a new 66kV substation and overhead line, a 35 MVAR 4 leg harmonic filter for a chemical plant in Brandon Manitoba and the entire electrical infrastructure for a new 1200 STPH lime kiln installed at Cricket Mountain, Utah, USA. Subsequently, Bernie focused on assisting less experienced engineers, tackling the more difficult technical assignments and providing advice and support for major projects completed by his colleagues.
